Hi everyone! My name is Amira Selmi. I am passionate about languages. I speak English, French, Arabic (native) and a little bit of Turkish.
My love for the English language has started since I was a little girl, and since I tend to share the things I am passionate about with others, I have decided that I want to become an English teacher.
The way I see teaching is an opportunity to meet different people. They come to my class to learn the language. However, I believe that my job goes beyond this rudimentary objective. In fact, my job is to help others acquire the language, encourage them and inspire them to realize their potential and to achieve many beautiful things.
I have a broad range of interests and they might be a way for my students and I to connect. I am passionate about psychology and different kinds of art. In other words, anything that touches your soul.
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate from Arizona State University (ASU)
My teaching style adheres mainly to the communicative approach as I am a teacher who accords great importance to speaking. I encourage students to talk and make mistakes. Besides, I keep my class active and dynamic through different activities that involve speaking such as role plays and language games.
I tend to use multiple techniques in my classes. When designing my lesson plans, I always put in mind the eighty/twenty rule for the reason that students need a fair amount of time practicing the language and communicating with it in order to reach fluency.
I also make sure that I give my students bite-size information so that the input is clear to them and they would be able to learn it with guidance. Then, I gradually build throughout instruction and practice.
My lessons are steady steps towards fluency and language acquisition. Hence, my short term goal is to teach my students different aspects of language, especially those that are frequently used.
See you in class!
