Hello and welcome to my profile everyone! My name is Maria, and I am a conversational language tutor for A2-C1 level English and A2-B2 Chinese. I enjoy English-based communication, and I'm here to expand my student network, making it more international! I am originally from Russia, Yekaterinburg, where I kickstarted my career as a translator of English, and later Mandarin. I lived and studied in Asia for several years (did my bachelor's in Shanghai University of Finance and Economics), where I also began teaching spoken English to the Chinese students. I practice virtual peacemaking as a mentor for cultural volunteers, also won several grants as an intercultural diplomat: I became a finalist for the 2023 Hansen Leadership Institute Program, completed SOLIYA professional Online Facilitation Training, accredited by UNAOC. I lived in China and Turkey, visited the neighbouring countries, and plan to get back to full-time travels to bring more cultural diversity to my classroom. As a certified TEFL/TESOL teacher with a strong foundation in multilingual business communications, I bring over five years of diverse experience in teaching spoken English. I’ve taught large groups in educational centres, led interactive lessons for young pre-school learners, and provided specialized tutoring for high schooler preparing for exams like IELTS. Inspired by the vibrant classrooms of China, I had transformed my journey as an educator to the personalized tutoring sessions. Now I help intermediate level students to prepare for proficiency tests (IELTS, PET) and improve language proficiency for business and travel purposes. Starting 2023, I completely switched to online classroom where I've been training adult students from an IT and related industries, using a situational grammar learning method. Among my students are programmers, lawyers and business owners, even artists, so I know how to find a unique personality approach and adjust to your pace. I believe that motivation is very important! Therefore, in my lessons, I largely contribute to creating a supportive and engaging atmosphere where a student can feel comfortable to practice and grow. We'll focus on the pronunciation accuracy and master a free-flowing conversation. I enjoy motivating my students by giving them space to express themselves in their unique manner. This gives my students a great confidence boost and helps to get rid of both the language and psychological barrier.
