Skylar Fan

Hi! My name is Skylar. I am an English tutor from Southern California. Coming from an immigrant background myself, I understand the struggles of learning English and hope to use my experience to support English learners who are eager to improve their English toward full proficiency. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy crocheting, playing the piano, and learning Turkish :) Currently, I am a Volunteer Chinese tutor at Language Scholar Connect, a non-profit organization that offers free Chinese lessons to high school students. I also run a language club called Linguacats that offers language learning support services to immigrant students new to American schools. In addition, I have scored 760 out of 800 on the English section of the SAT and won journalism contests in the East Los Angeles region. I help students develop fluency and confidence in their English skills through immersive instructional strategies such as conversational practice, visual aid, and comprehensible input. Flashcards and written assignments will also be incorporated to enrich students' reading and writing skills.
