Hello! My name is Joan. I am 22 years old and come from a beautiful country called Kenya. During my free time, I enjoy travelling, listening to music, reading novels and writing poetry. I particularly enjoy romance novels and books that touch on spirituality. I am the second child in a family of 6. Growing up I have always been surrounded by family. We live in a small village in the western part of the country. Waking up to the sounds of nature and the fresh morning air is one of the most peaceful experiences. I enjoy taking walks in the early mornings to watch the sun rise. This is also the best time for some meditation and yoga. Health is something close to my heart because some of my extended family suffer from chronic diseases. When I can spare the time, I teach myself how to dance from You Tube videos. I like learning new things and the energy afterwards is always worth it.
I am a student in my final year studying for a degree in English and Literature. I also have a 120 hour TOEFL certificate. For the past three years I have spent my time tutoring students in grade 10, 11 and 12 for their final exams, focusing primarily on English. Apart from that, I held an internship position at a renowned highschool for 3 months. My passion for teaching has always run deep. Both my parents are teachers as well and watching them has always inspired me. Over the 6 months, I have been tutoring English online. I have worked with children between the ages of 5-12, teenagers and adults. I typically teach articulation, grammar and conversational language.
I put a lot of effort into establishing a dynamic, well-structured learning atmosphere that encourages interaction and increases language proficiency. In my sessions we focus on speaking, listening, reading, and writing . I use teaching friendly methods like TPR, props and flashcards to introduce new language concepts. Practice comes next, consisting of guided activities like role-plays, conversations, or written assignments. I always provide students with opportunities to freely develop language by assigning more flexible projects. I also adapt my lessons to the specific needs and interests of the students, incorporating games and interactive activities to keep the learning process dynamic and enjoyable. Regular assessments, both formative and summative, help me track progress and adjust future lessons accordingly.
