As a kid I always associated a new word to similar words in my native language and remember like that.
One of my favourite ways to learn words is to use them in different sentences in different contexts.
Whenever I want to remember the new words, i write them down on a sticky note and hang on on my head while sleeping.

Watching TV shows and writing. When I'm looking to enhance my writing I often look for synonyms of words and I learn a lot of new things.
Everything is more beautiful if you not searching for it, like watching a movie or an animation with subtitles or seeing a word from an article or essay.
I enjoy discovering vocabulary that belongs to the same word part and using it to create sentences.
Watching cartoons, listening to music and reading poetry.
