I had a student who found it difficult to grasp spoken English, especially in conversations. This made participating in class discussions quite challenging for him. To support his learning, I incorporated different listening activities, such as podcasts and movie clips. We engaged in shadowing exercises, where he would repeat what he heard, which greatly improved his listening and pronunciation skills. Furthermore, I organized practice sessions focused on conversation, giving him the chance to speak openly without worrying about making mistakes. This method not only enhanced his listening abilities but also helped him gain confidence in his speaking. 😎
Having started teaching online recently, I’m still getting used to the technology and sometimes there are issues (student can’t hear me, WI-FI is down, etc). Even though these are awkward and stressful in the moment, I’m learning to just push through, figure out a solution, and get to the lesson. It’s making me good at thinking on my feet!

Start testI find that every culture is different and therefore we can have difficulties understanding each others accents. When I struggle to hear a word of don't understand the meaning, I ask the student to type the word and provide a definition. This way I also learn something new about the student and their culture and at the same time we clear the confusion.
Rude students can be frustrating, but I've learned to take it with a grain of salt. Initially, their behaviour would anger me, and I'd push through the lesson just to finish. However, I later understood that cultural differences often make people unaware of their rudeness. I've decided not to take it personally.
