Practice and have a lot of exposure, speak the language as much as you can, watch videos, movies and shows in English and practice as your watch
I use what I call scaffold strategy; this is where you build on a student's current knowledge. It's also taking it one step at a time. Not high jumps.
Have lots of exposure to the language and invest the time to practice different skills with a range of resources! I have plenty of ideas to share

I think we need to speak a lot, listen to podcasts or music, watch movies in English with subtitles, to set our mobile phone or laptop in English language, to read different articles in the target language, to read novels, chat with someone in English. Try to surround ourselves with English at maximum!
Be consistent, patient, engage during the lesson and set clear goals. For example, "I would like to be able to talk about food with ease in english within the next 'X' weeks". To achieve this goal, you need to focus on learning new vocabularies about food during your lesson and incorporate those words into your conversations throughout the session.
