For many students , having a teacher who is approachable and friendly can create a positive learning environment and make it easier to ask questions and seek help when needed.When a student feels comfortable with the teacher , they may also be willing to participate in class discussions and engage in classroom activities.
There must be a line be it fine, between tutor and pupil, set boundaries, as a teacher you have a role to play and as a learner you also have a role to play.
Role play and student talking time is important, a teacher doesn't have to be your "friend", but it is important that your teacher is friendly, helpful and approachable

Especially in Business English it is important to have role play we do interview questions so when they apply they are ready for the American questions each country has a different style of questions roll play is very important. You don’t have to be a good friend just trust… ilearning English is an uncomfortable action and you need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable in front of this person and laughing and being open is important.
I am very fond of using role-play in my classes, especially with young learners. Because It's interesting and engaging. In general being friends with the students is a very good approach and comforting, as long as it doesn't push the class out of its purpose.
The relationship between the student and the teacher must have some kind of friendship, because it will create a closer relationship and the teacher will understand and organize the classes for the student in a way that will fit better for the student. As for the role play activities, I am in total agree of using it. For example, if the student wants to learn English (or any language) for work, simulate dialogues and situation in the work station is one of the best ways for the student to practice the teaching.
From personal experience teaching various classes acting and constructing multitudinous creative projects, the acting in particular seemed to be a hit. Especially there is that catharsis at the end when everyone has the opportunity to view the numerous performances. Was absolutely an enjoyable sight to see. Of course, the need to practice the lines again-and-again, incorporate natural gestures, speak with charisma and emotion, and whatnot; these are a few reasons acting can definitely and engagingly improve language comprehension and confidence.
A friendly teacher creates a positive learning environment. The students will be able to ask questions and seek help without fear. Participation in class, discussions and other activities becomes easier if the the teacher is friendly and understanding. Such activities makes students perform very well since they participate fully with confidence when their teacher is helpful and aproachable.

Not so genius, but this has worked with my Asian and Latino students: Substitute all "Th-" in words with a "D-", as it is an easier starting point e.g. instead of "The", ask them to say De(almost like a form of pidgin english: de boi VS the boy). Its a matter of throat to tongue, where sounds with "T" and "D" are easier to begin with and then you will gradually progress to the "Th-" sounds as the find confindence and comfort. You could always tell them to pretend they are blowing out candles on a birthday cake; and for the "Th" sound their tongue should gently touch their teeth, like in words like "Thin" or "This". Have them practice the not so elated soft "Th" sound-- its like their tongue is having a short siesta on their teeth! Such a mental jounery and lots of creativity will get you through a lot of pronounciation hurdles.

The biggest challenge I faced while learning English was understanding and using different tenses correctly. It took time to get used to the various rules and exceptions.
