All of the rules and all of the exceptions to those rules (eg. "Why can't the grammar police make up their minds?"). Contemporary English (the English we use today) is heavily influenced by other languages such as French, Spanish and German. It has borrowed words from those languages but kept the original spelling, contrary to its own rules. The best way to learn new words and how to spell them is to practice reading original sources such as newspapers and add the new words you find to your vocabulary. Practice using these words in your writing practice and focus on the ones you have trouble spelling. They may seem strange at first but the more you practice spelling them, the more familiar they become. It may take time but in the end you'll learn to spell them correctly and they won't seem strange anymore.
The biggest challenge is grammar rules because you really need to follow rules so that you will learn grammar easily
I think most students struggle with pronunciation.

Well, the hardest challenge may be uncommon to be mentioned, yet I believe many others have faced it as well. It is the problem of distinguishing between words in a natural context. For example, during first times of exposure to the language in movies. series, or songs, we find it difficult to recognize separate words. We just hear a flow of natural speech, or in other words, a flow of native sounds following each other. To clarify more, We hear the sentence: "This is a cat" as "Thisisacat". Andthiscouldbefrustratinginthebeginning, just like the previous sentence! Nonetheless, the key to this is to expose yourself to reading texts more and more before listening, and therefore, you'll be ready to identify phrases well.
